Today, we honor the life, legacy, and service of Deputy William E. Hathaway. On this date in 1931, Deputy Hathaway was fatally shot during a gun battle with several men and women near Mayflower. Deputy Hathaway was serving a warrant on a man for theft, and the man's family began shooting, striking two deputies. Deputy Hathaway tragically passed away a short time later.
