Suspect injures Deputies with knife

On 01-11-14 at approximately midnight deputies responded to Francis E. Owens (55) residence located at 9 Green Lane, Conway in reference to a suicide threat.

MEMS responded to a medical call next door to Owens. Owens came outside of her residence and advised them she was going to jump off the Toad Suck Bridge. Medical personnel asked for a deputy to respond. When deputies responded, they were told by family members that Owens had a weapon and was barricaded in her home. Deputies were also advised Owens had threatened to have a “shoot out” with the deputies. Several deputies responded and were able to talk Owens out of the residence, but when she came out, she turn and ran. Deputies noticed Owens was trying to get to a knife in her waist band. A struggle ensued and two of the deputies were cut by the knife that she had hidden in her waist band. The deputies received minor injuries and went to Conway Regional for treatment and released. The suspect also went to Conway Regional for minor injuries that were self inflicted. Owens was released a short time later and transported to Unit 2.

 

Francis Owens is charged with Battery 2nd X 2 and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Both are Class B felonies. She will have first appearance today.
