UPDATE ON DECEMBER 21, 2023: The victim in this shooting has succumbed to his injuries. The charges against Mr. Yates have been upgraded to Capital Murder.

On December 20, 2023, at approximately 2:45pm, the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office responded to 515 Hwy 64 E. in reference to a shooting. Once on scene, Faulkner County Sheriff's Deputies located a single male victim outside of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until medical services arrived. Upon arrival, Pafford Medical Services transported the victim to the hospital for medical treatment.

Faulkner County Sheriff's Office was quickly able to identify a single suspect, Mikeal Yates, as the shooter. Faulkner County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Arkansas State Police and United States Marshals Service, began to track the suspect and narrowed his location to an area in Maumelle and I-40. Mr. Yates was spotted in that area, but, leaving in a vehicle, was able to evade law enforcement. Shortly thereafter, he was located in a second vehicle at the Quality Suites, where he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Yates was transported to the Faulkner County Detention Center, where he will remain housed pending court appearances on a single charge of Criminal Attempt to Commit 1st Degree Murder. Out of respect for the victim and his family, victim information is being withheld at this time.

Faulkner County Sheriff's Office would like to express our appreciation to the many agencies who provided assistance in this investigation including Pafford Medical Services, United States Marshals Service, Arkansas State Police, Mayflower Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, North Little Rock Police Department, and others. The cooperation of a multitude of agencies allowed Mr. Yates to be swiftly taken into custody.

As the investigation into this shooting remains ongoing, no additional information will be provided at this time.
