Reminder: Peer Recovery Specialist Applications Due

11/26/2023

Just a friendly reminder that applications for our Peer Recovery Specialist position are due tomorrow, November 27, 2023!

The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office has received a grant through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership to form an Overdose Response Team (ORT) until September 2025. An ORT partners a law enforcement criminal investigator with a peer recovery specialist (PRS) to respond to fatal and non-fatal overdoses within their jurisdiction.

The Peer Recovery Specialist's role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer Recovery Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent reoccurrence and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Specialist must demonstrate and have the ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.

The PRS will provide counseling for the overdose victim on available treatment and recovery services and follow-up and track these individuals to promote treatment and recovery. In cases of fatal overdoses, the PRS will refer family members to grief counseling resources. The PRS will also engage in community education about substance abuse by working with local coalitions and schools.

To apply for this position, individuals must 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid Arkansas driver's license, be able to successfully complete a background check, and have a positive work ethic and attitude.

Benefits include the following: paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; vacation, sick, and holiday time; APERS retirement after five years of service; a family working atmosphere; equal opportunity to excel; and administration with an open-door policy for all employees.
