Ongoing Investigation: "Swatting" Incident on Arapaho Trail

10/27/2023

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, at approximately 9:22pm, Faulkner County Sheriff’s Deputies and Arkansas State Police responded to Arapaho Trail following an emergency call from a male subject. The subject notified dispatchers that he stabbed two females inside the residence, was barricading himself inside the residence with firearms and pipe bombs, and would kill law enforcement officers upon arrival.

When Faulkner County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived in the area to begin strategic tactical planning, a vehicle was seen leaving the driveway of the residence. Upon contact with the vehicle, it was discovered that the residence had fallen victim to “swatting”.

“Swatting” involves fraudulent calls to the 911 system reporting serious threats or violent situations. These calls are made in an attempt to trigger law enforcement into raiding a residence or business of someone who has not actually committed a crime. There have been several documented cases of “swatting” around the country, many of which have resulted in serious charges and tragic outcomes.

Upon investigation into this incident, it was discovered that the residential information had been gained through an online game called Roblox and Discord App. The information gained from the number used to make the call originates from out of state, and this incident is currently under investigation through the joint effort of multiple law enforcement agencies.

Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office strongly cautions citizens of the dangers involved in online gaming and chat apps. We encourage all citizens to speak with their children about these dangers. Discuss the risks of providing personal information including, but not limited to, addresses. It is critical that youth are aware of the extreme dangers involved in sharing addresses and other personal information with people they have not actually met.

As this incident involves multiple jurisdictions and remains under investigation, no additional information will be provided at this time.
