Scam Alert: "Publisher's Clearing House" Scam

08/25/2023

Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to be on alert for the “Publisher’s Clearing House” Scam, which is one of the most prevalent scams around the country aimed particularly at older adults. The victim typically receives a phone call, text, or email stating that they have won money in the Publisher’s Clearing House lottery. The victim is then asked to provide money, gift cards, or other payments as “taxes” or “processing fees” in order to receive their winnings. Victims are frequently told not to inform others as the “prize” is intended to be a “surprise.” If you are asked to pay money in order to receive money or other “prizes”, it is a scam. If you are told to refrain from confiding in individuals you trust, it is a scam.

If you receive a call similar to this, do not give out personal information or provide money. If you are concerned about the legitimacy of a call you receive, you can always contact us at 501-450-4914 or our Non-Emergency Number 501-328-5906.

Stay safe, Faulkner County!
