Today, we honor the life, legacy, and service of Deputy William E. Hathaway. On this date in 1931, Deputy Hathaway was fatally shot during a gun battle with several men and women near Mayflower. Deputy Hathaway was serving a warrant on a man for theft, and the man's family began shooting, striking two deputies. Deputy Hathaway tragically passed away a short time later. At the time of his death, Deputy Hathaway left behind a wife and two young children. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. A hero remembered never dies! End of Watch: August 5, 1931.
