Information on Conditions in Unit II

We are aware of the concerns circulating on social media regarding HVAC and plumbing conditions at the Faulkner County Detention Center Unit II, and we want to provide accurate information regarding the current situation.

Regarding the plumbing issues, an $82,500 repair project was approved in February 2026 to address plumbing needs in both the men's and women's housing units. Those repairs have since been completed and some.   

With the recent period of exceptionally high temperatures and heat index, it is accurate to say that temperatures inside portions of the facility have been warmer than normal due to our HVAC system not operating at peak performance. We recognize these conditions are not ideal and have been actively working to resolve them.

Since May 2026, more than $25,000 in HVAC repairs and diagnostic work has been approved for Unit II alone. Those repairs and troubleshooting efforts remain ongoing, and we are in regular communication with HVAC contractors to restore the system to full operation as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we have implemented temporary measures to improve conditions inside the facility. Fans are being used to increase air circulation, and this morning seven evaporative coolers were purchased and placed throughout the housing units to help improve airflow and provide more comfortable conditions while repairs continue.

We remain committed to addressing these issues promptly and responsibly and will continue working with qualified repair professionals until the HVAC system is fully restored.
