Message From The Sheriff

Memorial Day Weekend

The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone to stay safe and be responsible as we approach Memorial Day weekend. During this time of remembrance, we honor those who gave their lives in service to our country, and we encourage all residents and visitors to celebrate in a way that ensures the safety of our community.

If you plan on traveling during the holiday weekend, always follow traffic laws, never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and remain aware of your surroundings.

As outdoor activities and travel increase during this time, so do potential driving distractions. Distracted driving includes anything that takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, or your attention away from driving. Distracted driving comes in many forms but cell phone use (texting, talking, and social media use) is the most common distraction.

To help prevent distracted driving, please review the following safety tips:

  • Activate your phone's 'Do Not Disturb' feature, silence notifications, or put your phone out of reach.
  • Appoint your passenger as the "designated texter" to respond to calls or messages.
  • Do not multitask while driving (adjusting mirrors, selecting music, eating, reading a text or email, etc.) - do these things before or after your trip or pull over to a safe location and park your car.
  • Get plenty of rest before getting behind the wheel and stop for frequent breaks to stretch, eat, etc.
  • If you are a passenger in a car with a distracted driver, speak up and ask the driver to focus on driving.

For more information on distracted driving, please visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Travel safely and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
