Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Stop DV recently held their Candlelight Vigil at the Faulkner County Courthouse Steps, which offered community members an opportunity to come together to remember lives lost to domestic violence, honor survivors, and hold space for those whose lives have been impacted by abuse.
Among the highlights of the event, Judge Dodson issued a proclamation naming October 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Unfortunately, statistics indicate 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence during their lifetime, and 1 in 6 men have had abusive relationships in their lifetime. Approximately 15.5 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year. Faulkner County Sheriff's Office encourages domestic violence victims and their families to seek assistance from appropriate victims' services organizations such as Stop DV.
Randy Higgins, Faulkner County Administrator, was recognized as the recipient of the Stop DV Louise Furst Award. This annual award recognizes someone who regularly "goes an extra mile" in supporting resources for victims of domestic violence.
We hope you will join us this month, and every month, in working together to support victims and stop domestic violence within Faulkner County. More information about Stop DV, including ways to support our local chapter, is available at the following link: Stop DV
