Man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

On June 24, 2013, While traveling eastbound on I-40 near the 135mm, Officer Sony Clifford of Mayflower P.D. observed a Chrysler 300, displaying Arizona tags, violating several traffic laws. Clifford conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver. The driver provided a Nevada Drivers License and Clifford identified him as Antonio Jose Babin. Babin was the was the sole passenger in the vehicle.  It was later determined that the vehicle was a rental and Babin was the secondary driver and not the paid renter of the vehicle. After speaking with Babin, and getting consent to search the vehicle, approximately 21 pounds of suspected Methamphetamine and 2 pounds of suspected  brown powder Heroin were located under the back seat.  All having an approximate street value of $700,000.00. The vehicle, a rental out of Las Vegas, was rented to a Albert Hernandez.  Babin indicated that he was traveling to New York to visit friends and stated that he was unaware of the narcotics in the back seat. With the assistance of the Faulkner County and State Police Narcotic investigators, the suspected narcotics were seized and Babin was taken into custody.  Babin is being held on two counts of Trafficking Narcotics. Due to the diligence of the Mayflower Police Department and the joint efforts of the Faulkner County Sheriffs and State Police, he investigation continues and a large quantity of narcotics have been taken from the street of Faulkner County.
